Maya Chai History
The Maya Tea Company began in the entrepreneurial mind of Manish Shah in 1995. Manish grew-up drinking a smooth, spicy drink called Chai. Chai, a little known tea made with freshly ground spices and accompanied by milk and sugar, was often brewed for guests at his mothers’ home. Many times the aroma and taste of the beverage enticed the visitors to inquire about its origin and availability. At the encouragement of local chai lovers, Manish formulated his own version of the tea and began to sell his own chai at a local farmers’ market. Bag by bag Manish’s chai, then called “MY Chai”, began to gain popularity and recognition. Within a short time, Manish expanded his offerings, including traditional teas and other chai blends. Maya Tea Company was born.

The Perfect Chai
The Maya Tea Company’s loose chai became so popular that Manish was encouraged to make a Chai concentrate to help out a local coffee shop. After many tastings and adjustments, the perfect chai cup was created. Maya Chai Concentrate was the first chai to be deliberately blended to his specifications, and was tested by local coffee shops with remarkable results. He wanted a product that was easy to use and cost effective for the end user, so the is formulated at an 11:1 concentration ratio. The benefits of Maya Tea Company’s chai concentrate were tailored with the coffee shop in mind: one pump per 12 ounce cup, shelf stable (no refrigeration necessary!) and easily blended for frozen drinks.

The Work Continues
The flavors of India are full of unexpected taste sensations, and the spices can mix and mingle into many exotic and enticing combinations. The staff of Maya Tea Company tirelessly experiments with new chai recipes, and looks forward to expanding the line of chai concentrates.
